Communist Countries Today
Russia and other countries that stemmed off of the Soviet Union are unlikely to set up a completely communist rule again, although the prospect is not too far fetched. Another commonly mentioned country when talking about communism is China, even though now China is slowly becoming more of a capitalist state. North Korea is one of the only extreme communist countries still left in the world. Cuba and Vietnam both remain politically single-party communist states. The picture to the right is a map of communist countries previously, but now Cuba, Vietnam, and North Korea are the only countries with totalitarian governments. Today McCarthyism refers to "defamation of character or reputation through personal attacks on individual by means of widely publicized indiscriminate allegations especially on the basis of unsubstantiated charges." (-Merriam Webster Dictionary)
North Korea
North Korea is the purest example of a communist government that currently exists. North Korea's current constitution establishes the country as a socialist state and was adopted in 1942. All people have civil and political rights but they are superseded by the safeguarding of the ideological and political unit of the people. North Korea is a communist state and is under a Totalitarian dictatorship. Kim Jong Un is the Chief of State and their Head of Government is Premier Pak Pong-ju. Since North Korea is an isolationist country they do not maintain relationships with many countries. They have significant relations with China, Russia and Pakistan. They so not have good relationships with South Korea, the United States or Japan.
Minor Political Parties Today
Today minor political parties have gained lots more influence in what they say, and many more people have associated themselves with small third parties. In many elections now days there are third party candidates soaking up small but noticeable portions of the votes. Some of the bigger parties include the Libertarian party, the Green party, and the Constitution Party. These parties, while they are not prominent in the United States, are still accepted under the First Amendment, as their rights are the same as any other citizen in America, regardless of which party they affiliate themselves with. McCarthy violated the rights of the Communist Party, and while Communists are not accepted as much as Libertarians are, per sé, they still deserve the same rights.
